Inside Renewable Energy- May 17, 2007

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

There have been numerous expansion announcements recently from PV module manufacturers and polysilicon producers in the U.S., which many people believe are signs of a healthy solar market. Travis Bradford, Founder of the Prometheus Institute, joins us to talk about what these expansion plans mean for the U.S. solar industry and how the nation’s market compares with those in Europe and Asia.

Also in the podcast: As new forms of hydropower gain in popularity, conventional hydropower technologies such as large-scale dams are increasingly criticized for being harmful to the environment. We’ll talk about a new report from Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research concluding that tropical dams significantly contribute to the release of greenhouse gas emissions.

Inside Renewable Energy offers the latest in renewable energy news and information.

Soc. & env. responsibility needed in all parts of society

Monday, May 14th, 2007

“Political will is necessary but not sufficient” to achieve sustainable development, WBCSD President Björn Stigson said at a recent conference in Oslo. “The painful choices will require partnerships than can create trust for the difficult trade-offs that we need to make to create a sustainable future. No part of society can do this on their own; we are in this together. We cannot as business succeed in a society that fails, and therefore we want to actively contribute to solutions to the challenges that society is facing.”
