Inside Renewable Energy- June 28, 2007
Thursday, June 28th, 2007 As the largest operator of landfills in the U.S., Waste Management (WM) sees a lot of potential to generate renewable electricity. When waste material in landfills decomposes, methane and carbon dioxide are released. While most landfills burn that gas off, WM uses it to run turbines and create electricity at 103 of its 281 facilities. The company announced on Wednesday that it will create 60 more landfill gas to energy facilities over the next five years, bringing the company’s total electrical generation capacity to 700 MW. We’ll talk with Paul Pabor, Vice President of Renewable Energy at WM about how demand for clean energy is driving the company’s decision to expand its renewable energy generation.
Also in the podcast: Denis Du Bois, Editor of EnergyPriorities.com, has another Energy Minute on the success of renewables in the Navarre region of Spain.
Inside Renewable Energy offers the latest in renewable energy news and information.

Teenie Weenie GreenieÃïÂ
This week’s Teenie Weenie GreenieÃï comes from The Green Book and is to share your popcorn when you’re at the movies
instead of buying multiple cartons or bags. You’ll save money and packaging. Americans today consume seventeen billion quarts of
popcorn each year (54 quarts per person), 30 percent of which are eaten at movie theaters, sporting events, entertainment arenas,
amusement parks, and other recreational centers. If half the people shared their popcorn, we could save the paper packaging
for more than 2.5 billion quart-size servings.

Healthy Egg Breakfast
Serves one or two.
- Tbsp. olive oil.
- One tomato, sliced.
- One clove garlic, sliced.
- Few torn leaves of basil, oregano or tarragon. Just one of these herbs.
- Two eggs.
- Parmesan cheese, grated
Heat the oil slightly, add the slices of tomatoes, garlic and herb, lower heat, and cook until the tomatoes are tender. Drop the
eggs in one at a time, sprinkle with cheese, cover and cook on very low heat until desired doneness. So easy and delicious.
Pizza on the Grill
- Low heated fire
- One prepared pizza dough
- Olive oil
- Favorite topping
Brush one side of pizza dough with oil, place on grill and cook until lightly browned. Take the dough off of the grill, brush the
uncooked side with olive oil. Turn the browned side up, and place toppings, return to grill, and cook covered until underside is lightly browned. Remove
immediately and serve.
Suggestions for toppings:
- Brie and mozzarella cheese with thinly sliced yellow and green zucchini with tarragon.
- Freshly sliced tomatoes, garlic mozzarella cheese, oregano.
