More Hip Than Hippie #164 - That’s Sew Green!

Do you have the itch to stitch? Even a novice (Dori) or a neurotic (Val) can save an old garment or give it some new style. Trystan Bass from Yahoo! Green needles the Hipsters to start sewing!

Beer and Chocolate:

Beer: Mendocino Brewing Company’s Summer Seasonal White Ale. It’s a limited edition, so try to get some before Dori and Val drink it all up.

Chocolate: J. D. Gross Ecuador Edelcacao, once again from our new favorite listener, Maile in Germany. We think it has ginger in it; could someone please translate the label? (D’oh, turns out it was caramel!)

Love the Swiffer, hate the waste! That’s why listener Jamielee’s ideas for "greening" it up are so brilliant. First, bypass the chemicals with a vinegar solution. Then, use an old cloth diaper as a washable pad in the wetjet, or cut up a fleece sweatshirt for the vac. Finally, compost the filter muck. Use rechargeable batteries to keep it running green. Swifferific!

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The last few weeks have been full of positive news for the U.S. wind industry. Former oil tycoon T. In this program, we’ll talk with Randy Swisher, executive director of the American Wind Energy Association, about these developments and what they mean for the U.S. wind industry.

Also in the podcast: Prakash Chakravarthi, CEO of the smart metering company Eka Systems, talks about the technological requirements for creating a more dynamic next-generation grid.

Inside Renewable Energy offers the latest in renewable energy news and information.

In this segment from Organic Living TV with the Hippy Gourmet, we are so honored to spend time with Gisele and Joe Martin from Tlaook Cultural Adventures. Not only do we canoe across the pristine landscape of Tofino, British Columbia, but Gisele takes us on a nature hike to pick wild huckleberries - which we then bake into a traditional First Nation’s recipe called Bannock…of course we brought along our SolarOvens.org solar cooker to bake the bread directly on the beach!
